A 87 nC charge is located at x=2 m on the x-axis and an 5 nC charge is located at x=11 m. at what point on the x-axis is the electric field zero?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Let the unknown distance be 'x' , where we have to find the electric field

So at distance 'x' field due to both charges with be equal and opposite , so that they cancel out to zero.

That is

q1 = 87 nC q2 = 5 nC distance between the charges, r = 11 -2 = 9 m

We dont have to convert the nC to C becuse they cancel each other.

Taking Root

From x axis = 2 + 1.74 = 3.74 m ... Final answer
