How much work is required to compress 80 grams of Argon gas (A presubscript 20 presuperscript 40 r ) to half its original volume if you hold it's temperature at 20 degress C?

A. 3,375 joules

B. 12,450 joules

C. 4723 joules

D. 1,112 joules

Homework Answers

Answer #1

work done while temperature is kept constant = nRT ln(V2/V1)

                                                                   now mole, n= 80/40 = 2

             temperature, T = 20+273 =293 K

R = 8.31 J/KgK

i.e. W= 2*8.31*293* ln(2) = 3375 J
