What is difference between static and kinetic friction forces? Give one example of each of them. Why Static friction force is larger than kinetic friction force?
When we apply a force to move an object over a surface but object doesn't move, than a static force of friction acts between the object and the surface. On the other hand, if the object starts moving over the surface on applying the force, than a kinetic force of friction acts between the object and the surface.
Suppose a big rock is put on the horizontal surface and we apply a force to move it but it doesn't move. It means there is some force opposing the force applied, that is the static force of friction.
Now suppose we are riding a bicycle and stop pedaling it so bicycle stops after moving some distance, it means there is some force opposing its motion. That is the kinetic force of friction.
Static force of friction is a little more than the kinetic force of friction because coefficient of static friction is more than coefficient of kinetic friction.
