If you have a light source, that is a laser, and have it going through one polarizing filter and have it interacting with the late sensor holder, make a prediction about shape of this graph, intensity versus angle. What kind of source is this and will it produce the same kind of light as a light bulb?
Answer: According to Malus law, when light passes through polarizer, there is variation of it's intensity when it comes out from the polarizer. Intensity is directly proportional to the angle between the polarizer and incident light.
According to Malus law,
I = I0 cos2
Here, I0 is original intensity of light
As , changes final intensity as long changes.
So, shape of graph is like sinusoid graph.
For, =0 , maximum intensity comes out. As cos0= 1
Sin 90 = 0 , for this intensity is zero.
So as , vary, intensity also vary vary.
Laser is called the monochromatic light source as it produces only single wavelength light.
Normal light can't produce such effect as it contains all wavelength of light.
