We know that ice temperature is much lower than room temperature. Let us assume ice is having a temperature of -2°c and the room temperature is 25°c
Now according to thermodynamics the heat flows from hotter area to cooler area. So the area where the ice is kept is cooler as compared to other parts of the room. Hence to maintain an equilibrium of the temperature heat will start to flow towards cooler temperature area hence the ice starts to melt this process continues till the ice melts completely or we can say the temperature is same in the whole room.
So we can say that when ice is kept in the room the temperature of the room is decreased. Because certain temperature is used to melt the ice and make the room temperature equal everywhere.
