why is acid strength stronger when electronegativity higher BUT is stronger when bond energy weaker? what is relationships between electronegativity and bond energy?
Acidic nature is determined by how stable ions are in solution.
Across a period from left to right in periodic table acidic strength increases with increase in electronegativity while top to bottom in a group acidic nature increases with decrease in electronegativity.
Ionic size play an important role for this phenomenona. From left to right in a period inonic size increases and hence has relatively less charge density in rightmost ion and is more stable in solution than leftmost ion. Along a group top ion is smaller than bottom and has higher charge density in slution and becomes unstable and less acidic.
Higher the elctronegativity means two ions are bonded together by strong force and hence nedd more enrgy to break. Hence higher electronegativity means higher bond energy.
