Reason: In quantum mechanics, a measurement is any process in which the given system is disturbed by the environment (either to actually measure some properties or unknowingly, like switching on a light during a double-slit experiment). In our situation, even though we are not actually measuring any values, we are allowing the electrons passing through one of the slits to interact with the cover(which blocks them). Therefore, we are collapsing the wavefunction of those electrons and measurement was made!
