If a galaxy is 2000 Mpc away, what is its recession speed due to the expansion of the Universe?

Answer #1

By Hubble's law,

Recession velocity (v) =  H    d

{ where, v = recession velocity [km/s]
d = distance [Mpc] =2000 Mpc   H = Hubble's constant [km/s/Mpc]

The value of Hubble's constant is :  H ~ 70 km/s/Mpc,

So ,

V = 70 km/s/Mpc    2000 Mpc

V = 140000 km/s.

hence, the Recession velocity is :
