As light moves from air (n 1.00) to amber, it deviates 18 degrees from its 45 degrees angle of incidence. What is the speed of light in amber?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Solution:

Using the given information,

Angle of refraction, = Angle of incidence - deviation = 45o - 18o = 27o

Using snell's law for refractive index of amber

nairSinair = namberSinamber

1*SIn45o = nSin27o

n = 1.56

Now , Find the speed,

v = c/n where c = 3*108 m/s. speed of light

v = 3*108/1.56

= 1.93*108 m/s.
