A mass of 1.78 kg is initially at rest upon a horizontal surface. An applied force of 16.4 N i then acts on the mass. If the coefficient of kinetic friction regarding the system is 0.479, what is the magnitude of the object's acceleration?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

mass, m = 1.78 kg

horizontal force, F = 16.4 N (along x axis)

coefficient of kinetic friction, = 0.479

frictional force, fr = N

fr = mg

force acting , Fe = F - fr

Fe = 16.4 - (0.479 x 1.78 x 9.8)

Fe = 8.04 n

Fe = ma

a = Fe/m

a = 8.04/1.78

a = 4.52 m/s2

Answer: acceleration 4.52 m/s2
