A small ranger vehicle has a soft ragtop roof. When the car is at rest, the roof is flat. What happens to the roof when the car is cruising at highway with the windows rolled up? Briefly explain your reasoning.
(I know it will curve up but I need a physics explanation as to why that happens/back up my answer) something to do with pressure...
considering bernoullie's theorem
p1 - p2 = 0.5 * rho (v2^2 - v1^2)
change in pressure = change in kinetic head of the pressure
means that where the velocity increase at higher speed, a low pressure head setup in the region i. e. on increasing v2 the pressure P2 decreases subsequently just above the roof making it the region of low pressure. now as per pressure difference the atmospheric pressure acts force downward on the roof, results the deformation of shape to upward open curve.
