True or false for the following:

A) Light can be totally internally reflected when it tries to go from a less dense material (smaller n) into a more dense material (larger n).

B) The frequency of the light also changes when it travels between different mediums.

C) When a light wave travels from a more dense medium (like water) into vacuum (complete lack of matter), the velocity of the light decreases.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer (a):- False.

The essential condition for total internal reflection is to be happened that light rays must goes from denser to rarer medium.

Answer(b):-False

Because , frequency ×wavelenth = speed of wave.

So according to this if some how speed changes in going form one medium to another so , only wavelength changes with such factor from which speed changes to make frequency constant or unchanged.

Answer:-(C) False

In going from denser to rarer medium , speed of light increase because there (vacuum) is no hindrance to appose the motion of speed of light in vaccum as compared to denser medium.

Evaluate each of the following as true or false? A laser can be source of monochromatic coherent light. Destructive interference occurs when two waves overlap with the same phase. Fluorescent lights are a source of coherent light. A phase difference of 360 degrees is the same as a path difference of two wavelengths. The reflected component of light traveling from one medium into another of lower refractive index will not under go a phase change relative to the incoming light.
