a freight company uses a compressed spring to shoot 2.0kg packages up a 1.0m high frictionless ramp into a truck. The spring constant is 500N/m and the spring is compressed 30cm

Homework Answers

Answer #1

let speed of the package when it reaches top is v.

as there is no friction, work done against friction=0

and total mechanical energy is conserved.

hence initial potential energy of the spring=final potential energy of the package+final kinetic energy of the package

==>0.5*spring constant*compression^2=mass*g*height+0.5*mass*speed^2

==>0.5*500*0.3^2=2*9.8*1+0.5*2*v^2

==>22.5=19.6+v^2

==>v=sqrt(22.5-19.6)=1.70293 m/s

hence speed of the package when it reaches the top of the ramp is 1.70293 m/s

A freight company uses a compressed spring to shoot 1.70 kgkg packages up a 1.00-mm -high frictionless ramp into a truck, as the figure(Figure 1) shows. The spring constant is 338 N/mN/m and the spring is compressed 33.0 cmcm . What is the speed of the package when it reaches the truck? AND A careless worker spills his soda on the ramp. This creates a 50.0-cmcm-long sticky spot with a coefficient of kinetic friction 0.43. How high up the ramp...

1. At a mail sorting facility, a spring is used to launch packages up an inclined plane 3.0 m long inclined at 18°. The coefficient of friction between the package and the plane is 0.25. Packages under 1.0 kg make it to the top of the incline and qualify for the lowest postage rate. Heavier packages must be removed from the ramp, and are subject to greater postage a . A spring is used to launch a block up a frictionless ramp as shown at right. At time t\, the spring is compressed and the block is released from point A. The block moves up the ramp, losing contact with thespring at point B. When it passes point C, the block has a velocity vc directed up the ramp. Imagine a system that includes the block and possibly one or more additional objects. a. Is it possible to choose a...

A mass of 2.1 kilograms is placed on a horizontal frictionless surface against an uncompressed spring with spring constant 1151.5 N/m. The inclined portion of the surface makes at an angle of 30 degrees to the horizontal and has a coefficient of kinetic friction of 0.27 with the mass. The mass is pushed against the spring until it is compressed a distance 0.15 and then released. How high (vertically), in meters, does the mass rise from the original height before...

A spring-loaded toy gun is used to shoot a ball of mass m=1.50kg straight up in the air. The spring has spring constant k=667 N/m. If the spring is compressed a distance of 19.0 cm from its equilibrium position y=0 and then released, the ball reaches a maximum height hmax (measured from the equilibrium position of the spring). There is no air resistance, and the ball never touches the inside of the gun. Assume that all movement occurs in a...
