The pick-up truck in front of you is braking while it is moving towards a red light. The truck is moving to the right (as shown in the figure below). There is a heavy box in the back of the pick-up truck that is not secured by a rope or in contact with any side wall. You observe that the box is not sliding while the truck is braking. The friction force acting on the box is Ff=−114 N. The mass of the truck is mT=1500 kg and the mass of the box is m=45 kg. Note: The direction pointing to the right is considered to be positive. Answer the following two questions:

a) What is the acceleration of the truck? (Use a negative number for an acceleration that is directed to the left and no sign for an acceleration directed to the right.)

5b) Assume that the mass of the box on the truck in the previous question is doubled and the acceleration of the truck is doubled. Everything else remains unchanged. The magnitude of the friction force acting on the box is:

a) Twice as large as the previous value

b)Four times as large as the previous value

d)The same as before

e) Half the size as before

f) A quarter of the previous value

A box rests on top of a flat bed truck. The box has a mass of m = 18 kg. The coefficient of static friction between the box and truck is μs = 0.8 and the coefficient of kinetic friction between the box and truck is μk = 0.61. 1)The truck accelerates from rest to vf = 17 m/s in t = 13 s (which is slow enough that the box will not slide). What is the acceleration of the...

One day while moving boxes you get tired and decide to use a rocket instead. You attach a small rocket of negligible mass to a 8.48 kg box. When you turn the rocket on, it provides a constant thrust of 192 N, and the sbox begins sliding across the pavement. If the magnitude of acceleration of the box is 12.8 m/s2, what is the coefficient of kinetic friction between the soapbox and pavement? 1.00 3.62 3.82 1.31

The hill is covered in gravel so that the truck's wheels will slide up the hill instead of rolling up the hill. The coefficient of kinetic friction between the tires and the gravel is ?k. This design has a spring at the top of the ramp that will help to stop the trucks. This spring is located at height h. The spring will compress until the truck stops, and then a latch will keep the spring from decompressing (stretching back...
