A meter stick is balanced on a fulcrum located at 0.50 m. A spring scale is hung from the meter stick at 0.90 m and a counterbalance is hung at 0.10 m so that the meter stick is level. If a mass of 125 grams is hung at the 0.35 m position on the meter stick, what force do you have pull on the spring scale in order to make the meter stick level? ANSWER: 0.46N. Please explain/show work.

The torque about the fulcrum due to the force at position of spring scale and weight of the mass hung at 0.35 m position will be zero. The weights of spring balance and the counterbalance at 0.9 m and 0.1 m respectively do not feature in the calculation because torque about fulcrum due to both cancel each other out.
