margaret is applying a 65N force to a book as shown. The bo is 859 pages long, has a mass of 2.5kg, is very well writtn, and is not moving. What is the minimum possible vale of the coeficient of static friction between the book and the wall?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

To move the book,The Force applied on the book should be greater than the frictional force between the book and wall.

we can get the minimum possible vale of the coeficient of static friction between the book and the wall ,when Force applied is equal to the frictional force.

Here the forces acting on the book are

a) force of gravity = mg

b)Normal force N

c)Force applied = 65N

Normal force = force of gravity (W) = mg = 2.5*9.8 = 24.5N

Frictional force =Force applied

  μ(Normal) = μ(24.5) = 65N

μ = 2.65

You have landed a great summer job in the medical school assisting in a research group investigating short-lived radioactive isotopes which might be useful in fighting cancer. Your group is working on a way of transporting α-particles (Helium nuclei) from where they are made to another room where they will collide with other material to form the isotopes. Since the radioactive isotopes are not expected to live very long, it is important to know precisely how much time it will...
