If you have a cart with reasonably frictionless wheels, you are good to go. You will want to use an elastic cord to measure force, and something to measure position, velocity, or acceleration. Your task is to measure the mass - but not the weight - of your cart. There are a few ways to do this, but one obvious one does come to mind.

I have been required to do this with absolutely no equipment. I understand that the mass would be measured with f=ma; however, I can't measure force or acceleration. All I need is data that should've been provided to me. I don't even have a cart with frictionless wheels where I am at.

Maya and Alejandro are getting ready to play ball on a cart with frictionless wheels. The cart is at rest. The total mass of Maya, Alejandro, and the cart combined is 145 kg. At precisely the same time, they each throw a ball to the other. Maya throws a 0.60 kg ball at 1.5 m/s leftward towards Alejandro. Simultaneously, Alejandro throws a 1.2 kg ball at 5.0 m/s towards the right to Maya. (These velocities and directions are as observed...

Physics Lab: Calculating the Acceleration of an Elevator? When not moving the scale read 77.1kg. The scale read 84.4 kg when the elevator moved from the 2nd to the 1st floor, 85.3 kg when moving from the 1st to the ground floor, and 72.6 kg when both moving from the ground to the 1st floor and the 1st to the 2nd. I need to find the acceleration of the elevator going down and up using the formula a=(Fn-mg)/m. I understand...

You are a medical consultant to a health technology company evaluating an inexpensive traction system for exerting a predictable force at the location of a patient’s leg injury. The device consists of a foot-strap connected to a weight by a rope that goes over a pulley. You are worried that the force exerted on the injury will change when the angle of the leg changes. As a first step in understanding the situation, you decide to model the portion of...

You have a mass at the top of a frictionless 85 cm ramp that has been raised to an angle of 30° above the horizontal. Do the following and be sure to show your work: a. Find the speed of the mass when it reaches the bottom of the ramp if it starts from rest. (Hint: this can be done with either the kinematics equations or conservation of energy.) b. Once the mass reaches the bottom of the ramp, it...

Possible Duplicate: What experiments prove the greenhouse effect? I am seeking for a proof that CO2 is a greenhouse gas. I posted this on Skeptic.SE recently but found no help in seeking for proof: I assisted to a physicist conference in my university a few years ago against the case that carbon dioxide was a cause of global warming. The main point was that CO2 is not a greenhouse gas. I did a research to find evidence for either side...

MOMENT OF INERTIA LAB Apparatus Only (P3) With Masses (P4) With Block (P5) Setup You have a T-shaped apparatus that can spin about a vertical axis. One end of a light string is wrapped around the vertical shaft of the apparatus. The other end passes over a pulley and has a known mass hung from it to establish tension in the string. By measuring the acceleration of the hanging mass, the rotational inertia of the apparatus can be determined. Specifically,...
