1. Which of the following can NOT be used to increase the current generated by an electrical generator?
Select one:
a. Increasing the minimum magnetic field.
b. Increasing the change in the magnetic field.
c. Increasing the number of coils of wire used.
d. Increasing the maximum magnetic field.

2. What are the purposes of wide blades on an electric power plug? What is the purpose of the third, round prong? Describe the difference between a standard electric socket and an appliance socket (these are larger, and have angled blades).

Answer #1

1).

  • Increasing the change in the magnetic field will lead to more change in flux linked with the coil hence more emf thereby more current will induce in the generator, using ohm's law: e= IR
  • Increasing the number of coils of wire again increases the emf and thereby induced current will again increase. ..........................(1)
  • Also Increasing the maximum magnetic field increases the maximum or peak emf of the circuit which in turn increases the peak current value.
  • But increasing the minimum Magnetic field will have no effect since in the emf calculation we only need to consider the change in magnetic flux since and maximum magnetic field for peak value of the emf. Thus increasing the minimum magnetic field can not be used to increase the current generated by an electrical circuit.

Hence correct option: a

1- A U-shaped conductor and conducting rod are used to form a slidewire generator. The generator lies in the xy plane with its conducting rod being parallel to the y axis and sliding along the positive x axis. A uniform magnetic field is applied in the positive z direction. If the velocity of the rod is doubled, what happens to the power dissipated by the generator's resistance? -It is quadrupled - It is doubled -It stays the same -It is...
