a uniform magnetic field is directed out of the page. electron released with velocity initial from top to bottom of page. what is the direction of the resulting force on the electron? possible answers to left, to right, into page, out of page

Answer #1

If an electron is moving with a velocity v is placed in an uniform magnetic field B at an angle with the field, it experiences a force given by,

The direction of this force is given by Fleming's Left Hand Rule. According to this rule, strech the thumb, fore finger and middle finger of the left hand in a mutually perperndicular direction such that the fore finger indicate the direction of magnetic field and the middle finger indicate the direction of velocity (motion of charge). Then the thumb represents the direction of magnetic field.

In the question, the magnetic field is directed out of the page and the velocity of the electron is top to bottom. Applyig the rule, we get the direction of the force towards right. So the direction of the resulting force on the electron is towards right.
