q2 = 2.2 * 10^-9 C is at x2 = - 0.32 m

a)

the net force on q3 , F = K * q1 * q3 /x1^2 + K * q2 * q3 /x2^2

4.3 * 10^-6 = 9 * 10^9 * 10^-9 * q3 * (4.6/0.24^2 + 2.2/0.32^2 )

solving for q3

q3 = 4.71 * 10^-9 C = 4.71 nC

b)

let the net force is zero at x m

the net force at x ,F = K * q1 * q3 /( x1 - (x))^2 + K * q3 * q2 /( x2 + x )^2

as the net force is zero

0 = K * q1 * q3 /( x1 - (x))^2 + K * q3 * q2 /( x2 + x )^2

0 = 4.6 /( 0.24 - (x))^2 - 2.2 /( - 0.32 + x )^2

solving for x

x = - 0.5 m

the electric force is zero at x = - 0.5 m
