If the Earth's axis tilted only 22 degree from perpendicular, what would the latitudes of the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic and Arctic Circle become?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Actually earth's axis is tilted 23.5 degree from perpendicular. We know that at summer solstice (20-21 june) sun is directed normal to tropic of cancer and same in winter solstice over tropic of Capricorn. Tropic of cancer and Capricorn is at 23.5 degree north and south respectively due to the fact that earth is tilt by 23.5 degree , and for this reason sun is above this latitude two times over the year. So there is no change in tropic of cancer due to this tilt, but it is the reason behind the name of tropic of cancer.

This same is applicable for tropic and arctic circle .There Will not be any change.
