Explain how a patient\'s breathing may be monitored using a loop of wire wrapped around the patient\'s chest, a source of uniform magnetic field (such as a solenoid), and a sensor (either for voltage or current). As the patient\'s expands and contracts with their breathing, would it make more sense for the sensor to pick up dc or ac signals?

Answer #1

As, induced voltage due to changing magnetic field = B * dA/dt

where, B = uniform magnetic field

dA/dt = change in area of coil

Thus, by sensor induced voltage can be measured .

So,   patient's breathing can be monitored by calculating change in area of coil .

Thus, as the patient's expands and contracts with their breathing, it would make more sense for the sensor to pick up ac signals .
