PLEASE SHOW ALL WORK AND EXPLAIN!!! THANKS!!!

5. Two large speakers face each other.  They are 100m apart and each are sounding the same note. Standing midway between the speakers you do nothear a sound.  You start to walk towards one of the speakers at speed of 2m/sec.  The sounds start to increase and is the loudest when you've moved 75cm from your starting point.

      a. What is the note the speakers are playing?

      b. As you continue to walk, what is the beat frequency you hear? (if you cannot do part a, then assume the frequency is 200 Hz)

Homework Answers

Answer #1

a) The two speakers are out of phase. Because, at mid point distructive interfrence is taking place.

so, 75 cm = lamda/2

==> lamda = 2*75 cm

= 150 cm

= 1.5 m

we know, speed of soubd, v = 343 m/s

so, the note the speakers are playing f = v/lamda

= 343/1.5

= 228.7 Hz <<<<<<<<<<--------------Answer

b) v = 2 m/s (velocity of obsrver)

frequency heard from the front speaker, f' = f*(v_sound + v)/v_sound

= 228.7*(343 + 2)/343

= 230.0 Hz

frequency heard from the back speaker, f'' = f*v_sound/(v_sound + v)

= 228.7*343/(343 + 2)

= 227.4 Hz

so, beat frequency heard, f' - f'' = 230.0 - 227.4

= 2.60 Hz <<<<<<<<--------------Answer

Two speakers A and B are 5.00m apart and each is playing a 780Hz note in phase with each other. On a line perpendicular to the speakers, you are standing 3.60 m in front of speaker A. You start walking on the perpendicular line away from the speakers.[1] At what distance from speaker A do you first hear a maximum in the sound intensity.[2] At what distance from speaker A do you first hear a minimum in the sound intensity

You are standing at the midpoint between two speakers, a distance D away from each. The speakers are playing the exact same sound of frequency 170 Hz in phase with each other. Describe what happens when you walk 1 m directly toward one of the speakers. Assume the speed of sound is 340 m/s. Also assume you can't hear any sounds except those produced by the speakers. You begin by hearing nothing, but the sound gets louder. Then it gets...

Two speakers are located at two on an unknown triangle with an observer located at the geometric center. You do not know either the sides nor angles, so you attach pipes that are open at both ends from each speaker to the center of the triangle. One pipe has a 4th harmonic standing wave frequency of 300 Hz, and one pipe has a 5th harmonic standing of 400 Hz. What frequency can the speakers be playing for the observer to...

a) A 1 meter long guitar string of linear mass density 2g/m3 is put under tension until it resonates with a fundamental frequency of 440 Hz. Determine the tension that produces this fundamental frequency. Also determine the other of the first four harmonic frequencies and draw diagrams illustrating what each of these oscillations looks like on the string. b) This string will produce sound waves in the air, determine the wavelength of the sound waves. c) Suppose you had two...
