Mice and rodents are sensitive to ultrasonic sound waves (above the human range of frequency detection). Suppose a company advertises a rodent repellant device that emits ultrasonic waves with frequencies of approximately 50kHz. Assuming a speed of sound of 340m/s, determine the wavelength of these sound waves.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

given that frequencies (f) = 50*10^3 Hz , speed of sound (v) = 340 m/s
The relationship between the speed of sound, its frequency, and wavelength
    v = f λ ,
wavelenght of sound waves (λ) = v/f
                              = 340/50*10^3
                              = 6.8*10^-3 m
