In the lab, we learned how to find the free fall acceleration by using simple pendulum. At one end, assume that I have attached a very heavy ball of 120 kg to an aluminum wire of 3 mm-diameter and length 9.0 m-length. Other end is attached to the ceiling. When the ball was first hung from the aluminum wire, how much did the aluminum wire stretch and how much is the strain and stress induce in the wire? You may have to use young’s modulus of aluminum = 7.0 x 1010 N/m2 to solve this problem.
