What is the average power required to lift a 100 kg object with a uniform speed of 2 m/s?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Weight W = 100 kg = 100 x 9.8 N = 980 N

Uniform Speed v = 2 m/sec

Average Power = Force x Average Velocity

    Average Power P = W v

                        = 980 N x 2 m/sec

                        = 1960 N-m /sec

                        = 1960 Watt

We know 1 HP = 746 Watt

So, power P = 1960 / 746 HP

                   = 2.63 HP
