In a parallel plate capacitor, if we increase the distance between the plates then the capacitance will decrease. If we increase the voltage through de two plates, what effect would it have on the capacitor?

Answer #1

In parallel plate capacitor C=E0A/d......(1)

Where E0 is the permitivity in air, A is the area of plate and d is the distance between the plates.

So, from here one interpret that the capacitance does depend upon the voltage increment.

Also, from Q=CV , if some how voltage increases so charge(Q) will be increase in order to make capacitance constant.

So, on increasing voltage capacitance doesn't change.

From first equation (1) we can see the 'd' is inversely proportional to Capacitance .so on decreasing 'd' capacitance will obviously increase
