At an intersection on a road where the speed limit is 45

mi

hr

, a yellow light lasts 3

seconds. If the intersection is 15m wide, how far from the intersection can a car

traveling the speed limit be and still make it completely through the intersection?

For this problem you can ignore the length of the car. I got 45 m for this question but need help, on the next one.

At the same intersection a person decides to stop their car upon reacting to the

yellow light when their car is 60m from the beginning of the intersection. Based on

their reaction time, the driver waits 0.75s before applying the brakes once they see

the yellow light. If the car was initially traveling at the speed limit, what acceleration

would be required to stop the car at the beginning of the intersection?

A person driving her car at 53.0 km/hr approaches an intersection just as the traffic light turns yellow (see figure below). She knows that the yellow light lasts only 1.60 s before turning to red, and she is a distance D = 33.0 m away from the near side of the intersection. If she decides to stop, how far from the intersection will she come to a stop? The intersection is W =16.0 m wide. Her car's maximum deceleration is...

A speeding car is going 72 mi/hr. The driver hits the brakes to slow the car down to the 55 mi/hr speed limit. The car has a mass of 2.0 metric tons. What is the magnitude of the impulse exerted by the brakes on the car?

A car is traveling up a 1.5% grade at 65 mi/hr on good, wet pavement. The driver brakes to try to avoid hitting a cone on the road that is 300 ft ahead. The driver’s reaction time is 1.5 second. When the driver first applies the brakes, a software flaw causes the braking efficiency to lower to 0.8 for 100 ft. After the initial 100 ft, the braking efficiency returns to 1.0. How fast will the driver be going when...

Two cars are traveling on level terrain at 60 mi/h on a road with a coefficient of adhesion of 0.8. The driver of car 1 has a 2.5-s perception/reaction time and the driver of car 2 has a 2.1-s perception/reaction time. Both cars are traveling side by side and the drivers are able to stop their respective cars in the same distance after first seeing a roadway obstacle (perception and reaction plus vehicle stopping distance). If the braking efficiency of...

A two-lane minor road intersects a two-lane major road at 90 degrees, forming a four-leg intersection with traffic on the minor road controlled by a yield sign. A building is located 40 ft from the minor road. If the speed limit were 45 mi/h on the major road 25 mi/h on the minor road, determine the minimum distance that the building can be located from the centerline of the outside lane of the major street.

An automobile is traveling on a long, straight highway at a steady 77.0 mi/h when the driver sees a wreck 200 m ahead. At that instant, she applies the brakes (ignore reaction time). Between her and the wreck are two different surfaces. First there is 100 m of ice, where the deceleration is only 1.30 m/s2 . From then on, it is dry concrete, where the deceleration is a more normal 7.60 m/s2 Part A. What was the car’s speed...

The driver of a one ton car traveling at 126 km/hr suddenly used his brake to stop before hitting a stationary lorry ahead. After the brakes are applied, a constant kinetic friction force of magnitude 8 kilo Newton acts on the car. Ignore air resistance.
