A cat knocks a pie off a windowsill in an apartment building. The pie then falls past the window of the apartment directly below. It takes the pie 0.360 s to pass from the top of that window, which is 1.80 m high, to the bottom. Find the distance d between the top of that window and the windowsill above it from which the pie fell. Assume that the pie starts at rest when it falls and ignore air resistance.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

When the pie reaches the top of the window, let its velocity be

Height of window = h = 1.8 m

Time taken to pass from top of window to bottom = t = 0.36 s

Let the distance between the window sill and the top of the window be s

Initial velocity of the pie

So, the distance between the window sill and the top of the window is 0.533 m
