In case of tied arch bridges whenever a load is put on thee bridge, its weight is transformed into stress that acts directly on the arched part of the bridge through the cables. Thus maximum tension acts on the curved top chord by vertical ties of the deck, thereby putting pressure on the top chord to flatten it.
