Block A in the figure (Figure 1) hangs by a cord from spring balance D and is submerged in a liquid C contained in beaker B. The mass of the beaker is 1.10 kg ; the mass of the liquid is 1.85 kg . Balance D reads 3.55 kg and balance E reads 7.50 kg . The volume of block A is 3.50×10−3 m3 .
What will the balance E read if block A is pulled up out of the liquid?
Express your answer in kilograms.
ANSWER::
Lets, Mass of the beaker mb = 1.10 kg
the mass of the liquid is ml =1.85 kg
Reading on the balance D when the object is suspended in the liquid Rd = 3.55 kg
Reading on the balance E on which the beaker and liquid in which the object is suspended RE = 7.50 kg
Volume of the block A, V=3.50×10−3 m3
and Acceleration due to gravity, g=9.8 m/s2
When the object is pulled out of the liquid, the balance E will read the actual mass of the beaker and liquid.
So the reading of balance E is is,
the balance E read if block A is pulled up out of the liquid is = 2.95 kilograms
