1a. In an isolated system if the temperature is lowered and the volume stays constant what will happen to the pressure?
1b. If 100N of force is applied on flat square panel of width equal to .5m, what is the resulting pressure?
(1a)
Isolated system: it is defined as a thermodynamic system that cannot exchange either energy or matter outside the boundaries of the system.
If we decrease the temperature at lower temperature and volume remains constant, then the pressure would also have to decrease in order to satisfy Gay-Lussac's law.
(1b)
F = 100 N
Width = 5 m
Here given plate is square, hence width = length = 5 m
Area of Plate, A = length x width
A = 5 x 5
A = 25 m2
According to pascal law,
Pressure = Force / area
= F/A
= 100 / 25
Pressure = 4 N/m2
P = 4 N/m2
