A spherical helium balloon has a radius of 3.6 m and mass of 11 kg. Calculate the maximum weight it could lift. (⍴He = 0.179 kg/m3 and ⍴air = 1.29 kg/m3)

Homework Answers

Answer #1

At limiting case, bouyant force = weight

                   1.29*4/3*pi*3.6^3*9.8 = 4/3*pi*3.6^3*0.179*9.8 + W

                  W= 1.29*4/3*pi*3.6^3*9.8 - 4/3*pi*3.6^3*0.179*9.8

                  = 2128 N answer
