A circular brass plug needs to pass through a square hole in an iron sheet. At room temperature (20◦C), the diameter of the plug is 8.755 cm and the length of each side of the square is 8.740 cm. At what temperature must the iron sheet be brought in order for the brass plug to fit through the square hole? The brass plug is not heated. The coefficient of linear expansion for iron is 12 × 10−6/◦C. (The answer is 163 C)
