What would happen to the path of the electron if the strength of the magnetic field was doubled.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

if the magnetic field was doubled.

CASE 1

if electron velocity is in the same direction ( parallel /anti-parallel)  as the magnetic field nothing will happen

CASE 2

if the electron is at rest also nothing will happen

CASE 3

if the electron is moving perpendicular to the magnetic field with a speed v

its speed will be the same as before if you double the field

but its radius of the path given by

r= m*v /qB

will become half now if you double the  magnetic field
