A monochromatic lamp emits a 85 W beam of light which has a wavelength of 520 nm.

How many photons does the lamp emit each minute?

Would this number be bigger, smaller, or the same if the lamp had the same power but emitted light with wavelength 926.6 nm instead?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

(a) Answer = 1.335 x 1022 photons/min

(b) When wavelength increases energy of a single photon decreases as per the equation. Hence more number of photons need to be emitted for getting the specified power. Hence the number will be more.

Hope the answer helps you. All the best wishes for your studies ?.

You'd like to double the number of photons in a beam of laser light with wavelength of 500 nm. How can you do this? A. Double the wavelenght of the beam, which you might do by doubling the number of times you pump the light-emitting material to reach excited states. B. Choose a light-emitting material with an excited state at twice the energy gap from the next lowest state, so that two photons are emitted in a single transition rather...
