Which one of the following waves is fundamentally different from the other four? Explain

  1. Radio waves
  2. Sound waves
  3. Gamma rays
  4. Ultraviolet Radiation
  5. Visible light

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The sound wave is different than others.

Reason: 1) all others are an electromagnetic wave in nature but the sound wave is longitudinal that is vibration parallel to the direction of propagation.

2) sound wave can not propagate or can not be produced in a vacuum it needs a material medium but others can propagate in vacuum

3)Velocity os sound wave depends on several mechanical properties of the material medium(density) but the speed of Electromagnetic waves depends on electrical and magnetic properties of the medium.
