The slow reactivity changes in the reactor core:

1. Power level change, startup and SCRAM

Because, the power level decreases the fuel burning/reacting rate, at the time of startup and SCRAM also

The 135-Xenon and 149-Samarium build up also slow downs the reactivity in the reactor core, while xenon is more effective then samarium to slow down the reactivity. After their build up, it usually take 40 hours to get reactivity back to the optimum level.
