According to the law of conservation of momentum, momentum of the cannon and cannon ball before firing is equal to the sum of momentum of the cannon and cannon ball after collision.

Momentum before collision = 0

Let the mass of cannon be m​​​​​​1 and mass of cannonball be m​​​​​​2.

Velocity of cannon and the cannon ball after firing are v​​​​​​1 and v​​​​​​2 respectively.

From the law of conservation of momentum,

m​​​​​​1​​​v​​​​1 + m2v2 ​​​​​= 0

v​​​​​​1 = -m2v2/m1

= 0.54 m/s
