Question

Two balls on a frictionless plane are heading towards each other. Ball 1 has a mass of 2 kg and is heading to the right at 3m/s,and ball 2 has a mass of 5 kg and is heading to the left at 1m/s. Both balls collide into each other, but their centers are slightly off-center resulting in a change of ball 1’s trajectory from parallel to the x-plane to 70° above the x-plane. What are the magnitude and direction of ball 2’s final velocity?

Also, v1f= 2.903 m/s

The answer is V2f= 1.019 m/s, angle = 80 °below x-axis

Please show the work and explain the equations used to get the answer

Answer #1

Two rubber balls undergo an elastic collision. Ball 1 has a mass
of 10 kg and an initial velocity of 5 m/s in the positive x
direction. Ball 2 has a mass of 10 kg and is
stationary. What is the final velocity of the two
balls, v1f, and v2f?

2 tennis balls slide in a horizontal direction towards each
other. Tennis A has mass of 0.25 kg and velocity of 10 m/s. Tennis
Ball B has a mass of .035 kg and initial velocity of 26 m/s.
Eventually both tennis ball collide and Tennis Ball B has speed of
6m/s at angle 150. Solve for the velocity magnitude and direction
after the collision.

Two balls, ball -1 and ball – 2 are about to collide hands on a
frictionless linear track. Ball – 1is traveling east with a speed 8
m/s toward ball-2. Ball-2 has a speed -2 m/s. if the mass of ball
-2 is 6 times the mass of ball-1, what is the speed of ball -2
after the collision? We assume that collision is perfectly
elastic.

Two identical balls, a and b, collide and stick together. The

each other. b ball A had a speed of 5m/s and ball B had a speed of
3m/s just before a collision. What is the magnitude of the change
of Ball As momentum produced by the collision

Two balls collide elastically. Ball A has a mass of 3.00 kg and
moves to the right at 2.00 m/s. Ball B has a mass of 1.29 kg, and
moves to the left, also at 2.00 m/s.The balls collide head-on. A)

B. V1= 1/2V0 and V2= 1/2V0
C. V1= -V0 and V2= 2V0
D. V1= -1/2V0 and V2= 3/2V0

A ball, m1 = 0.1 kg, having initial velocity v1i = 0.5 m/s hits
a stationary ball in a glancing collision. After the collision the
balls have final speeds v1f = 0.4 m/s and v2f = 0.2 m/s and ball 1
bounces back at an angle of 110 degrees relative to its incident
trajectory.
a) Sketch diagrams of the balls before and after the collision.

velocities.
b) Write down algebraic...

Two large balls roll over a smooth surface and collide. They are
made of a super hard material so there is no deformation. Ball 1
has a mass ?1 of 2.00 ?? and travels with an initial velocity of
10.0 ?/?. Ball 2 has a mass ?2 of 5.00 ?? and travels with an
initial velocity of 1.42 ?/?. A tracking system captures the
collision data and is shown below. After the collision, what are
the speeds of the two...

Two balls of clay are shot at each other with an initial angle
of 110 degrees between them. One ball has a mass of 30 g and a
speed of 1.5 m/s, and the other ball has a mass of 40 g and a speed
of 1.2 m/s. When the balls collide, they stick together. What is
the velocity (speed and direction) of the 70-g ball after the
collision?

A 3-kg-mass is sliding down a frictionless inclined plane (θ =
22º) towards a spring of force constant 450 N/m. The mass is
initially a meter from the spring and is traveling with a speed of
0.8 m/ s. How much is the spring compressed when the mass is
momentarily stationary? Assume the mass of the spring is
negligible.
