A) Describe the three rules when drawing a ray diargmam for how light passes from an object thorough a lens to form an image. B)What is the minimum number of rays needed to determine the size and position of an image?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

While drawing a ray diagram we these rules are follow:

1) Any incident ray traveling parallel to the principal axis of a converging lens will refract through the lens and travel through the focal point on the opposite side of the lens as shown in figure (A)

2) Any incident ray traveling through focal point on the way to the lens will refract through the lens and travel parallel to the principal axis as shown in figure (B)

3) An incident ray that passes through center of the lens will in effect continue in the same direction that it had when it entered the lens as shown in figure (C)

Part(b)

We need minimum two rays to determine the size and position of image as shown in position (D)
