What is the difference between light diffraction and light interference?

What is the difference between light diffraction and light interference?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The Difference between Diffraction and Interference is given below.

Diffraction Interfrence
1. Diffraction occurs due to superposition of secondary wavelets from a single source . 1 Interference occurs due to superposition of light waves(primary wavelets) from two sources.
2.Firnge Intensity is not same for all the fringes. 2.Fringe intensity is  same for all the fringes.
3.Width of firges is unequal 3. Width of fringes is equal.
4. Fringe spacing is non uniform 4. Fringe spacing is uniform.
5.Contrast between maxima and minima is poor.

5.Contrast between maxima and minima is good.

6.Slit or obstacle is required to get diffraction pattern. 6 Slit or obstace is not required ot get interference pattern.
7 . Direction of wave propagation gets changed after being diffracted. 7. Direction of wave propagation ramain same after being superposed.
