is energy conserved when hammering a nail into a piece of wood? explain what types of energy is involved.

Answer #1

Yes Energy is conserved when a nail is hammered in a piece of wood..

It involves the Muscular energy of our muscles which help to move the Hammer then the kinetic energy of hammer, after hitting this energy is converted into kinetic energy of nail ,some energy is wasted as sound energy which we heared while hitting the nail and some amount of energy is lost as heat to the environment ....as the nail become hot at the point of hitting..Also Internal energy of nail also increased if the temperature of nail rised a bit..

hammering nails - physics PROBLEM: When removing a nail, where should you hold a hammer to use the least amount of effort force? Your lab must be written up in "standard lab format". Refer to the "How to Write Up a Lab" document found under the Unit 2 Resources link for instructions on how to do this. (Note: Percent error calculations are not required for this lab.) Procedure: 1) Hammer two identical nails into a piece of wood so that...

A 2.2 kg brick is dropped from a height of 1.0 m onto a small nail stuck vertically in a piece of wood. Assuming the nail does not move in to a large extent, how much heat is produced in the system when the block hits and sticks onto the top of the nail. (You can assume all of the energy becomes thermal energy gained by the nail.)
