Question 1

During a rugby game two players are running toward each other. One has a mass of 83.9 kg and the other has a mass of 59.9 kg. The player who has the bigger mass is running at 1.90 m/s and the other is running at 4.70 m/s. They hit each other, fall to the ground and slide while attached to each other. If the coefficient of kinetic friction between the players and the ground is 0.300, how far did they slide?

Question 2

A 928 kg red car is travelling to the east at a speed of 63.1 m/s and a 1.60×103 kg blue car is travelling 33.0° south of west at a speed of 16.3 m/s. They collide and then continue to move while attached to each other. What is the speed of the two cars together?

In a game a few years ago, two football players crash into each other during a tackle. The first player (mass 115 kg) is traveling at 5.78 m/s, at an angle of 49.4 degrees south of east. The second player (mass 98.0 kg) is traveling at 7.94 m/s, at an angle of 40.4 degrees north of east. The two players then collide, and stick together right after the collision. Define north as positive y and east as positive x. A....

Two particles are moving toward each other along the x axis with equal speeds. Specifically, particle 1 of mass 7 kg moves to the right at 3.87 m/s and particle 2 of mass 15 kg moves to the left at the same speed. The particles collide elastically. After the collision, the first particle moves at 90◦ to its original direction while the second particle is deflected through a smaller angle θ2 < 90◦. A) Find the final speed of particle...
