What is the total internal energy of 1 mol of gas at STP?

Answer must be in Joules.

Answer #1

An ideal gas is the gas in which all collisions between atoms or molecules are perfectly eleastic and there are no intermolecular attractive forces between them. In ideal gas, all the internal energy is in the form of kinetic energy.

From the kinetic theory of gas, avg kinetic energy per mole will be given by,

Where,

R: universal gas constant (R=8.314 J/K-mol)

T: Temperature (in kelvin)

At STP, temperature T=00 = 273.15 K

So internal energy is given by,
