A certain kind of glass has an index of refraction of 1.660 for blue light of wavelength 440 nm and an index of 1.630 for red light of wavelength 690 nm. If a beam containing these two colors is incident at an angle of 30.0° on a piece of this glass, what is the angle between the two beams inside the glass?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Here,

angle of incidence ,1= 30 degree for the blue light,

lel the angle of refracfion is theta1

Using Snell's law

n*sin(i) =n1* sin(theta1)

n = 1 . sin(30 degree) =1660 .sin(theta1)

theta1 =17.53 degree

Now, for the red lig.

let -the angle of retraction is theta2

Using Snel 's law

n*sin(i)=n2* sin(theta2)

1 * sin(30 degree), 1630 . sin(theta2)

theta =17.76degree

angle between beams =17.76- 17.53

angle between beams = 0..23degree

the angle between beams is 0.23 degree
