P5.34- A constant force is applied to an object, causing the object to accelerate at 5 m/s2 .
What will the acceleration be if the force is halved?
What will the acceleration be if the object's mass is halved?
What will the acceleration be if the force and the object's mass are both halved?
What will the acceleration be if the force is halved and the object's mass is doubled?
From Newton's Law, it can be stated that
therfore,
.............................(1)
..............................(2)
a) when force is haved keeping mass constant, freom equation (1),
it can be statewd that the acceleration, which is proportional to
force, will also be reduced to HALVED to
2.5 m/s2
b) When object's mass is halved keeping force constant, the acceleration would be doubled to 10 m/s2.
c) When force and mass are both halved, the acceleration will remain the same at 5 m/s2
d) When force is halved and mass is doubled, acceleration value would decrease by a factor of 4. and the value of acceleration will be 1.25 m/s2
