Comminution processes are typically not very energy efficient. Its been approximated that only 1 % of the energy input is utilized to create new surfaces. Where goes the rest?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The efficiency is calculated based on surface energy of larger particale to surface energy of the broken or comminuted particle, which is essentially less than 1 % in general.

Rest of energy goes to produce heat due to friction between the particle-particle , particle-equipment parts ,equipment parts -equipment parts, deformation of particles, deformation of equipment parts. These effects reduces efficiency of comminution process, which goes in heating the environment ,particles and the process equipment itself, that is why many times they are attached with liquid coolent to remove heat.

1). The Bohr Model of the hydrogen atom proposed that there were very specific energy states that the electron could be in. These states were called stationary orbits or stationary states. Higher energy states were further from the nucleus. These orbits were thought to be essentially spherical shells in which the electrons orbited at a fixed radius or distance from the nucleus. The smallest orbit is represented by n=1, the next smallest n=2, and so on, where n is a...

1. In an effort to reduce energy costs, a major university has installed more efficient lights as well as automatic sensors that turn the lights off when no movement is present in a room. Historically, the cost of lighting an average classroom for 1 week has been $265. To determine whether the changes have signficantly reduced costs, the university takes a sample of 50 classrooms. They find that the average cost for 1 week is $247 with a standard deviation...
