what is the current industrial process for butadiene production in Asia??

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Most of the Butadiene production is carried out mainly as a byproduct of Ethylene production from steam crackers in Asian industries:

Most of the butadiene (>90%) is produced from steam crackers as a by product of ethylene production. Stream having four carbon atoms is separated from crude in the steam cracking process. It is then fed to butadiene extracttion units.

In extraction units, butadiene is separated from the other C4s stream using extractive distillation technology. Thus composition of feed to the steam cracking unit plays a very important role in determining the amount of C4s produced in steam cracking. If feed is Heavier containing streams like naphtha will result into higher C4 yield. Higher C4 yield will result into higher butadiene prduction

Steam Crackers having lighter feeds will produce lower quantities of C4s stream and will have less production of butadiene.

The Haber-Bosch process is a very important industrial process. In the Haber-Bosch process, hydrogen gas reacts with nitrogen gas to produce ammonia according to the equation: 3 H2 (g) + N2 (g) → 2 NH3 (g) The ammonia produced in the Haber-Bosch process has a wide range of uses, from fertilizer to pharmaceuticals. However, the production of ammonia is difficult, resulting in lower yields than those predicted from the chemical equation. What is the maximum theoretical yield in grams if...

Over the past several decades, many global companies have off-shored production to Asia or India.  Today, many of those same companies are now re-shoring or near shoring production.  An example of near shoring would be migrating production from Asia or India to Mexico for the US market.  What market forces are driving re-shoring/near-shoring ?
