How to decide gas absorption tower pressure? Mention reference please

How to decide gas absorption tower pressure?
Mention reference please

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Pressure drop in gas absorption column arises due to following reasons:

1-Resistance offered by the fluid flow.

2-Resistance due to column packing and column internals.

3-Due to some kind of solid particles getting accumulated in packing.

The overall pressure drop can be estimated by combining the number of absorber stages, unit packing pressure drop and unit packing height.

Height of transfer unit (HTU),Number of transfer unit(NTU)Height equivalent to theoritical plate(HETP) plays an important role in deciding the pressure drop of a packed column.

Liquid flow rate and gas flow rate are also an important parameter in deciding the pressure drop.

So in order to have perfect operation in a gas absorption column we have to operate it at an optimum pressure drop.

In an absorption tower (or absorber), a gas is contacted with a liquid such that one or more components in the gas is transferred in the liquid. A stripping tower (stripper) also involves a gas contacting a liquid but components are transferred from the liquid into the gas. A process consisting of an absorber and a stripper is used to separate the components of a gas containing 35.0 mole% CO2 and the balance CH4. This gas is fed to the...

In a gas absorption tower, acetone is absorbed from its mixture with air using a nonvolatile absorption oil. 100 mol/h of gas mixture enter the bottom of the column contains 30 mol% acetone while 261.9 mol/h oil enter the top of the column. The exiting gas stream is to contain 1.3 mol% acetone. a) Determine molar flow rate of the exiting gas and exiting liquid streams. b) Determine number of stages required for the above process.

1. A wetted-wall absorption tower, 1 in ID is fed with water as the wall liquid on ammonia-air mixtures as the central-core gas. At a particular level in the tower, the ammonia concentration in the bulk gas is 0.8 mole fraction, that in the bulk liquid 0.05 mole fraction. The temperature is 80 ℉, and pressure is 1 std atm. The rates of flow are such that the local mass-transfer coefficient in the liquid, from a correlation obtained with dilute...

Three thousand cubic meters per day of a gas mixture containing methane and n-butane at 21°C enters an absorption tower. The partial pressures at these conditions are 103 kPa for methane and 586 kPa for n-butane. In the absorber, 80% of the butane is removed and the remaining gas leaves the tower at 38°C and a total pressure ot 550 kPa. What is the volumetric flow rate of gas at the exit? How many moles per day of butane are...

A gas stream contains 4.0 mol % NH3 and its ammonia content is reduced to 0.5 mol % in a packed absorption tower at 293 K and 101300 Pa. The inlet pure water flow is 68.0 kgmol/h and total inlet gas flow is 57.8 kgmol/h. The tower diameter is 0.747 m. The film mass-transfer coefficients are k’ya=0.0739 kgmol/s.m3 .molfrac and k’xa= 0.169 kgmol/s.m3 .molfrac. Using the design methods for dilute gas mixtures, (a) Calculate the tower height using k’ya. (b)...

Consider the following statements as they apply to atomic absorption spectroscopy. Decide if each is true or false. True or False  The lower the surface tension of a solution, the smaller the droplets formed in the nebulizer. True or False  In flame AAS, a liquid sample is sucked into the flame because of the pressure drop created by the flow of gas around the tip of the capillary tube (the Bernoulli effect). True or False  Electrothermal AAS is a much more sensitive technique...

Gas mixture containing H2S and air from a petroleum distillation column, has its concentration of H2S reduced from 4.0 mol% to 0.1 mol% by scrubbing with a triethanolamine-water solvent in a countercurrent tower, operating at 300 K and at atmospheric pressure. H2S is soluble in such a solution and the equilibrium relation may be taken as Ye = 2.2X. The solvent enters the tower free of H2S and leaves containing 0.015 kmol of H2S/kmol of solvent. The overall coefficient for...
